I won't swear completely OFF flying, there are places I want to go
that can only be reached by plane as I'm not into swimming oceans
much... :) I don't think that the new trend of charging to choose your
seat before the checkin counter is helping safety. I don't complain
about security lines, these new rules with all the add on charges are
not for security, they are just about $$$$.
IF all the airlines would set their fares at what they actually need
to run the show and make a fair profit, that would be better IMO. It's
the sneakiness (not quite the right word) of advertizing a low fare
and then hitting you with all these extra charges which in some cases
have actually TRIPLED the fare people have paid!!
My only gripe about the liquids/gels ban is that since they won't let
you carry your stuff onboard in your carry on, they shouldn't charge
you for ONE bag to be checked. They are forcing you to go without your
needed cosmetics/hygienic supplies. Or just adding more expense by
forcing you to detour to a store and pay top dollar at your
destination. IF you are at a place where this is possible.
I'll keep southwest in mind if they don't have the extra fees, but
southwest flights are very limited from here. :)
