Post: Volunteers Needed
Posted by Adrienne Nixon on 7/22/08
Dear Teachers/Retired Teachers:
First of all, thank you for being a teacher!
If you would like to continue to make a difference in
someone's life, please consider becoming a Literacy
Volunteer. With chapters all over the US and in many
countries (see www.proliteracy.org), Literacy
Volunteers/Proliteracy provides free, confidential, one-on-
one tutoring to ADULTS with literacy needs. Whether they
are learning English as a secondary language or they were
educated here in the U.S., adults can find the help they
need.
I work for and volunteer for the Literacy Volunteers of
Sussex County (LVSC) chapter, which also serves parts of
Warren County as there is no affiliate there.
Though prior teaching/tutoring experience is not
necessary, I wanted to reach out to you because we have
many tutors who are in fact retired teachers. They find
it very rewarding to work one-on-one with adults.
If you or someone you know is interested, please check out
LVSC's website at www.literacyforyou.org to see the dates
and locations of our upcoming Fall training for new
volunteers. Again, if outside of Sussex County/NJ, visit
www.proliteracy.org and click "find a program near you"
for your local chapter.
Any questions, feel free to email me at
adrienne.nixon@gmail.com.
Thank you,
Adrienne Nixon
