Re: If you had to do it all over again...

My first 15 years were WONDERFUL. But then, the powers that be
discovered what a cash cow it is. Because of this, the
publishers benefited, the politicians benefited, and many
district administrators benefited as well. New and worthless
positions at the district level were created. These "extra"
people in the district office generated volumes of unnecessary
work for already overloaded teachers. We were pulled out of our
classrooms constantly, forced to make sub plans, forced to
listen to garbage over and over again but under a different
title. Then the insipid district assessments became vogue.
More new programs are flying into my district at a time when
there is "no money." I don't get it. But I am so glad I
retired in June. I cringe when I go to my school on occasion
and see what my friends there are going through. It gets worse
every year while the class size is going up.
If teaching was like it was my first 15 years, I would do again
in a heartbeat. The way it is now, I absolutely would not.
It's full of unnecessary stress today. It only benefits the
powers that be and certain not the teachers much less the kids.
