For my 40th birthday, my husband told me he was going to cook me
dinner and we'd curl up and watch a movie. I was very
unsuspecting, as we had celebrated my birthday two nights prior
at a restaurant. So he prepared a delicious surf&turf dinner
(lobster and steak!). Then he told me, while he was doing the
dishes that I should get in my jammies and quilted robe and curl
up on the sofa with my pillow and get ready for the movie, which
I did. Then there was a noise on the porch, and he called me
out to see if I could hear it. All of our friends were around
the porch, waiting to see me in my pajamas and robe (with hood
up) as my DH had promised them I would be.
For my 60th, he took me to the city (an hour away) for lunch and
a basketball game (my favorite team). While at lunch, every
five minutes, a different friend of mine happened to come into
the restaurant and sit at a different table, as though they
didn't know I was there. Each one that came in, I expressed
great amazement that they would be in the city shopping,
especially since it happened to be report card weekend. I
thought it was a total coincidence until the fourth one showed
up and I finally figured it out (I'm really slow and gullible)!
We all went to the game and had a great time. So now I have to
get even!!!
I want to have the party at our house, and I'll have no problem
distracting him until the time of the party. The logistics can
all be handled. I just want to think of a little twist on the
surprise to make it funny. I was thinking of having everyone
here when he wakes up in the morning, but he gets up so darn
early, that wouldn't work. It would be funny though :)
Maybe I could have a neighbor call him to help with some fix-it
problem at their house, then another guy could go over to help
also. They could come back to our house with Bill and have a
beer with him or something, then we'd call their wives to join
them. Then we could have everyone else trickle in over the next
ten minutes or so until the house is full. Then we'd
say "surprise".
I could throw off any suspicions he might have by wearing my
sloppy "at home" clothes or gym clothes, etc. I won't be able
to dress up and fuss over the house as I usually do when I'm
expecting company!
Anyway, ideas welcome :)
